Join artist Aunty Annette Houston from the Yirran Miigaydhu – Aboriginal Women’s Weaving Group for a very special Make Her weaving workshop this NAIDOC week.
Enjoy a cup of tea while learning both traditional and contemporary weaving basics from artist Aunty Annette Houston in a two-hour weaving workshop. Aunty Annette will guide participants through basket making techniques using dyed raffia to make baskets and beautiful woven jewellery.
No matter your experience or skill level, creativity is for all women. If you feel like a creative community is missing from your life, Make Her might just be the community for you.
Yirran Miigaydhu meaning “many women” in Dharawal language, began in early 2015 as a weaving group for South West Sydney based Aboriginal women to connect and embrace knowledge through weaving. These meetings provide space for connection through conversation, sharing stories and interweaving women’s business and wellbeing with creativity.
This is a free event for all ages and bookings are not required.
