Exhibition: Saturday 8 July – Sunday 13 August 2023
Opening Event: Saturday 8 July 2022
C-A-C presents the ‘Friends Annual’ and ‘Focus’ exhibitions, an eclectic display of artworks by the Friends of Campbelltown Arts Centre. Boasting a range of style and mediums, the ‘Friends Annual’ is a chance to see some of the best art the region has to offer.
Complementary to the ‘Friends Annual’, the ‘Focus’ exhibition highlights the work of a talented artist or collective and provides a cohesive insight into their practice.
This year’s ‘Focus’ artist is Freya Jobbins.
Freya Jobbins is a South African-born, German/Australian multi-disciplinary artist. She grew up in Bradbury and lives and works on Dharawal land. Freya is better known for her plastic assemblages created from deconstructed discarded plastic dolls, her practice spans larger site-specific installations, sculptures, prints and performance pieces. Her work is based on appropriation, re-assemblage, and subversion of pre-existent objects, continuing to explore notions of identity, motifs and her own dissimilation.
“These works are from a new series, ‘Naturalisation’ developed during my residency at The Corridor Project supported by Orana Arts. Being immersed in the beautiful natural environment and surrounds near Cowra raised questions of how my practice would respond and engage within it. Placing masks on myself and at various sites, sparked a moment of recognition where my practice and I can sit in stark contrast: an acceptance of my beginnings and migrant history towards embracing my individualism and non-confirmative art style.”
