2018 Fisher’s Ghost Artist Talks | Saturday 24 November, 6pm
During the Handpicked markets a series of free artist talks will be held in the galleries. Meet three 2018 Fisher’s Ghost Art Award finalists and hear them speak about their finalist artwork and their art making practice. Join Rosie Deacon, Mona Ibrahim and Freya Jobbins in conversation from 6pm.
Rosie Deacon’s practice extends to installation, textiles and video, often taking a satirical poke at Australian kitsch while unpacking notions of national identity. Deacon’s work Platyroo Tuckerbag won the 2018 Fisher’s Ghost Sculpture Award.
Mona Ibrahim is a film-maker from Cairo, Egypt, who now resides in Sydney. Her work is centred on her experience of immigrating to Australia over 5 years ago.
South African born, Campbelltown raised, South West Sydney based artist Freya Jobbins’s practice is based on social commentary. She is known for her plastic assemblages created from deconstructed dolls and plastic children’s toys.
